Professor Zhen LEI Wins the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars

Time:2017-10-16

Professor Zhen LEI is awarded the 2017 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars for his achievements in the area of partial differential equations.

The National Science Fund of China for Distinguished Young Scholars is set to promote the growth of young talents in the field of science and technology, to encourage overseas scholars to return to work, and to accelerate the training of a group of leading academic leaders. In 2017, NSFC subsidizes 198 outstanding scholars.

Professor Zhen LEI’s research is focused on the mathematical theory of nonlinear wave and elastodynamic equations, Navier-Stokes equations and related PDEs arising in fluid dynamics. He introduces the concept of strong null condition and proves the global well-posedness of small amplitude solutions for incompressible elastodynamic systems in two dimensions. He and his collaborators are the first to prove the global well-posedness of the evolutionary Faddeev equations arising from quantum mechanics, which is considered as one of the most notable results in the field. He also has deep contributions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and nonlinear wave equations.
