Abstract:

A trigonometry for Iterative Solvers of linear systems coming from discretized partial differential equations will be presented. In the case of Krylov solvers for normalizable matrices, one is led to interesting questions in complex function theory. Essentially, there are almost no short recurrences for generalized least squares conjugate gradient solvers. This is shown via the theory of normal degree.
