In 2005 S.I. Kimura introduced to the theory of Chow motives the notion of finite dimensionality, as an attempt to understand certain aspects of algebraic cycles. In this talk, I will explain what finite dimensionality is about and survey the many ways it reaches out to several outstanding deep conjectures in the theory of algebraic cycles.
