Many of the results in the Minimal Model Program over complex projective varieties depend on Kodaira vanishing theorem and its generalizations.
Because of the failure of these tools in positive characteristic, many of these results are still open in this case. I will survey some recent progress in the study of birational geometry of projective varieties defined over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic.
