In this talk we first present a construction of smooth sphere maps with given degree and a new proof of a generalization of Morse index formula for smooth vector fields. Then we give the elementary and elegant analytic proof by Milnor of hair ball theorem and Brouwer’s fixed point theorem. Finally, we propose a topological problem from dynamical systems theory.
