We will look at three case studies to illustrate different modeling approaches to collective cell behaviour in biology: (i) acid-mediated cancer cell invasion, (ii) neural crest cell migration, (iii) crypt dynamics in the intestine.The models will vary from coupled systems of partial differential equations, to hybrid discrete cell-based, to cell-centred models. We will show that the models raise new mathematical questions as well as giving new insights into the biology.
