A theorem of Nevanlinna says that an open, simply connected surface spread over the sphere with finitely many logarithmic singularities is always parabolic. In the talk, we will give a topological and combinatorial proof of this theorem, and use similar ideas to show the existence of Shabat entire functions from some trees.
