The postdoctoral research station of mathematics

The postdoctoral research station of mathematics was established in 1985, with Gu Chaohao and Li Ta-Tsien, the famous mathematicians, working as its general director. At present, school of Mathematics is home to 4 academicians, 41 professors and 36 associate professors. Pure mathematics, applied mathematics and operational research and cybernetics are listed as key disciplines of Ministry of Education which helped establish a key Laboratory of Mathematics for Nonlinear Sciences in 1994.
Setting strict limits in providing postdoctoral positions for candidates, the station has been running in accord with the relevant regulations. It has been encouraging exploration into tough and unsolved issues and meanwhile, making close supervision by examining proposals, midterm reports and theses of researchers. In addition, an active engagement in academic exchanges is what has been called for. In 2005, the station was nominated one of the national excellent postdoctoral research stations.
The past 20 years has witnessed 50 postdoctoral researchers successfully finishing their projects and embarking on a more permanent career path. Most of them chose to go to universities, research institutes, or went abroad. They have made substantial academic achievements as follows in their respective fields.
Professor Peng Shige (Shandong University): Having Completed his postdoctoral research in 1989, He won the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Ministry of Education in 1994, the second prize of National Natural Science Award in 1995, Award for Outstanding Young Scholars in 1996 by Qiushi Science & Technologies Foundation, and the Highest Science and Technology award of Shandong Province in 2003. He was awarded the title of Distinguished Yangtze River Scholar, Outstanding Middle-aged Expert and National Excellent Teacher in 1999. He is also in charge of a key project named financial mathematics, financial engineering and financial management patronized by Natural Science Foundation.
Professor Bai Zhongzhi (Chinese Academy of Sciences): Having Completed his postdoctoral research in 1995, he won the third prize for Science and Technology Progress Award by Ministry of Education in 1995, the third Prize of Natural Science Award by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the second prize of Young Scientist Award, and the Outstanding Youth Award. He is entitled to special government allowances of the State Council.
Professor Guo Kunyu (Fudan University): Has won the Outstanding Young Teacher Award by Ministry of Education in 2002, the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Shanghai in 2003, and The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. One of his studies has been published by a prestigious international press.
Professor Fan Engui: In charge of a subproject of “973 Project”, he has published more than 50 papers in SCI and an academic monograph.
Professor Lu Peizhong: Having completed his postdoctoral research in 2004, he participated in major projects of Natural Science Foundation during his research at Fudan University. He has won a third and a second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of PLA. His research finds wide application in military fields.
Dr. Yan Jun: He has successfully proved the famous Arnold diffusion conjecture in the theory of dynamical systems, which has been published in an internationally prestigious Journal of Mathematics.
A set of rules and regulations have been formulated to improve its management and service to researchers. We warmly welcome anyone interested in our postdoctoral positions. In addition to government grant, the researchers are guaranteed research funds of per capita ¥5000 by School of Mathematics.
